This was a plein air painting done south of San Francisco just off Highway 280, The day was hazy from smoke resulting from forest fires in the state. I particularly liked the pale light on the eucalyptus trunks

The low raking earliy morning ligh caught my eye on this scene. The water in the baylands was at high tide so the reflections were an added benefit.

This painting was started as a plein air painting but was finished in the studio. These are the rocks just offshore from an art club member's seaside retreat. Yes, her name is Anita!

I just liked the shape of this bush and the long shadows. This time the tide was low and although the scene looked nice the smell was not as pretty. In fact the smell may have kept me from overworking the painting!

This was painted on a cold, heavily-overcast day in San Francisco - typical of the summer weather there. I was after the calm and timeless feeling that the headland was communicating to me at the time.

This is a quiet side road just off a busy interstate behind the background trees. You never have to go far to find a quaint scene to paint.

This was a very hot day and the air was suffused with vapor, but the sun was still strong and really gave the rosebushes volume.

These makeshift corrals looked like a step back in time and have a rural quality that you might have found 50 years ago.

Coming out of the deep shadow into the bright sun seemed to provide an attractive way to use only light and dark to provide a dramatic composition.

Once again I seem to be attracted to overcast days! This was a serene view looking back at the mountains and morning fog across the wetlands by Pillar Point near Princeton Harbor in Half Moon Bay.
